History of the West Iredell Fire Department

Located on Old Mountain Rd. At Bradford’s Crossroads, The West Iredell Fire Department was organized by the members of West Iredell Lion’s Club and was incorporated in 1961. They and many other members of the community began construction of the building which consisted of two engine bays, an office, and a bedroom, another bay was added in 1964. In 1971 an addition of three engine bays and a conference room was added to the building, and again in 1997 an addition of three more engine bays, two offices, and a larger conference room. Renovations to the older portions of the building where made to update the living quarters.

Construction of a sub-station was completed in 2000. Located on Sharon School Rd. Station two consist of three engine bays an office and a bedroom. Station two was constructed to better service the members of our community that lived in the western regions of the district with adequate fire protection.

Currently the West Iredell Fire Department Fleet of vehicles consist of three engines, one ladder, two tankers, support unit, brush truck, and a car.
Since 1961 both the community and the department have grown and changed. The population of the district served has greatly increased. New schools, churches, more industries, housing developments, and a water system with fire hydrants have come into the West Iredell area since 1961. West Iredell Fire Department has also grown. Not only has it added to its building and fleet of vehicles, but also it has added much specialized equipment and increased its training and pre-fire planning. West Iredell Fire Department feels the necessity of growing with the community and has become a permanent and essential part of the community.
