With the events going on with 2020, it has been very hard to teach children about fire safety. We have been asked by many people wondering when we might go around to the school’s. With the Covid-19 pandemic going on, many counties are not allowing the fire departments to visit schools. We love to visit the four school within our fire distrust but it did not happen this year. We hope to be able to do it next year. With many different recourses available, we have put some items together for teachers, parents, and/or guardians to teach kids this year. A lot of these are for preschool to 2nd graders. There is also a Fire escape plan for children to learn. These were pulled off the NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) and can found on their website by clicking NFPA links below. This year’s topic is about cooking safety. If you are going to be cooking, it is good practice to add a lid to the pot or pan you are cooking with. If you are going to be cooking with a pan or pot that does not have a lid. Make sure you have a ABC Fire extinguisher nearby. Remember, anytime you’re using an extinguisher remember "PASS". Pull, Aim, Squeeze, and Sweep. If you have questions, feel free to contact West Iredell Fire Department or your local department during the business hours.
