Fire Suppression

West Iredell Fire Department is responsible for all fire protection in the Shiloh Township and will be the initial department responding to any report of fire within our district.

Iredell County currently maintains a contract with our department, which provides fire and other emergency services for the Shiloh area and surrounding communities.  We have our own fire district and we receive a portion of the County’s annual budget to fund our operations.

When there is a building fire in our district our department responds initially, followed by a backup unit from each of the next closest departments.  This protocol, implemented by the county’s Fire Marshal's Office, ensures that sufficient personnel and equipment are en route to the scene during the initial dispatch of a building fire or fire alarm. On smaller fires, such as grass fires or vehicle fires, our department responds exclusively unless we specifically request backup.

Our apparatus are equipped to handle virtually any type of fire or typical emergency.  In addition to building fire and vehicle fires, we respond to grass fires, fuel fires, and even the occasional mulch pile fire.  We take great pride in our equipment and are dedicated to ensuring it operates at an optimum level.

Our members are well-trained and perform at their best on the fire ground.  Many of our members have achieved the North Carolina Firefighter Certification, a task which involves attending hundreds of hours of extensive hands-on and classroom training and for most individuals, takes 2-3 years to complete.  A few of our members bring experience and knowledge from other departments across the state, giving us opportunities to try new methods and discuss different ideas.

In addition to all types of fires, we also respond to an array of other emergencies, including vehicle accidents, fire alarms, weather-related incidents, hazardous materials incidents, and structural collapse, entrapments, and rescue situations.  We also provide mutual aid response for the Statesville Fire Department around the area of the Statesville Regional Airport.
